What to Expect at Your First Consultation

Your first consultation with Dr Kloppenburg is a structured 60-minute remote appointment. This guide explains exactly what happens before, during, and after your session.

At your first consultation with Dr Kloppenburg, you will complete a pre-consultation questionnaire, participate in a 60-minute telephone or video call covering your medical history and goals, receive a drug-herb interaction review, and receive a written care plan within five working days.

The Five Stages of Your Consultation

Step 1

Preparation before your appointment

Once your appointment is confirmed, you will receive a short pre-consultation questionnaire. Please complete this and return it at least 48 hours before your appointment. Include your current medication list — prescription, over-the-counter, and any supplements or herbal remedies — as well as any recent blood results or specialist letters.

Step 2

The consultation itself — 60 minutes

Your consultation takes place by telephone or video call. Dr Kloppenburg will begin by taking a detailed history — your diagnosis, current treatment, symptoms, and your goals. She will then conduct a structured assessment of your nutritional status, psychological wellbeing, and specific concerns. The final part is dedicated to her recommendations and your questions.

Step 3

Drug-herb interaction review

Before recommending any complementary therapy, Dr Kloppenburg conducts a formal drug-herb interaction review. Some supplements and herbal remedies interact with chemotherapy agents, anticoagulants, and other medications. Her review ensures that every recommendation is safe within the context of your current treatment protocol.

Step 4

Your written care plan

Within five working days of your consultation, you will receive a written care plan summarising Dr Kloppenburg's assessment and recommendations. This document includes the evidence basis for each recommendation, safety considerations, and suggested next steps. You may share this with your GP, oncologist, or any other member of your medical team.

Step 5

Communication with your medical team

With your consent, Dr Kloppenburg will send a copy of her report to your GP or oncologist. Integrative medicine works best when it is transparent and collaborative.

Common Questions

How long is the first consultation?

All consultations are 60 minutes. This duration is fixed because it is the minimum time required to take a thorough history, conduct a drug-herb interaction review, and make considered recommendations.

Do I need to prepare anything in advance?

Yes. Please prepare your current medication list (including supplements), any recent blood results, and a list of your main concerns and questions. You will also receive a short pre-consultation questionnaire to complete.

Can I bring a family member or carer to the call?

Yes. You are welcome to have a family member or carer present. Please let us know in advance so Dr Kloppenburg can structure the session accordingly.

What happens if I need a follow-up?

Follow-up consultations are available at a reduced fee. Most patients have a follow-up 6-8 weeks after their initial consultation to review progress and adjust recommendations.
