A Physician Trained in Two Worlds

Dr Saskia Kloppenburg Vieth is a GMC-registered Consultant in General Internal Medicine and integrative medicine specialist. She holds a permanent NHS appointment at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (RLHIM) and offers 60-minute private integrative oncology consultations to patients across the UK.

Dr Kloppenburg trained as a specialist in General Internal Medicine in Spain, completing a rigorous five-year residency at the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario Materno-Infantil de Gran Canaria — one of Spain's leading tertiary referral hospitals. During that training she rotated through internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, neurology, intensive care, palliative care, and infectious disease, building the broad clinical foundation that underpins her integrative practice today.

In parallel with her conventional training, she pursued postgraduate qualifications in homeopathic medicine, Ericksonian hypnotherapy, neurolinguistic programming (NLP), and nutritional science. This dual pathway was not a departure from medicine — it was an extension of it. She wanted to offer patients the full spectrum of evidence-informed care, not just the portion that fits within a 10-minute NHS appointment.

Since 2016 she has held a permanent position as a Specialty Doctor at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (RLHIM), the UK's largest NHS integrative medicine centre, where she advises patients on integrative oncology consultations and complementary cancer care. She also runs a private practice, offering remote 60-minute consultations to patients across the UK.

Her Clinical Philosophy: Safety First

Dr Kloppenburg's practice is grounded in a principle she applies to every consultation: safety first. Every complementary therapy she prescribes is assessed for its evidence base, its pharmacological interactions with existing medications, and its appropriateness for the individual patient's cancer type and treatment protocol. She does not prescribe anything she cannot justify clinically.

She works alongside — not instead of — your oncologist, GP, or specialist. She communicates with your medical team, provides written treatment reports, and flags any concerns about drug-herb interaction safety before they become problems. This is what distinguishes her practice from standalone complementary therapy clinics: she has the conventional medical training to understand the risks, and the integrative training to navigate them.

Her clinical interests include complementary cancer care (particularly mistletoe therapy, IV vitamin C, and medicinal mushrooms), chronic condition management, nutritional medicine, and mind-body approaches to symptom control. She consults in English, German, and Spanish.

Research and Publications

Dr Kloppenburg has contributed to clinical research throughout her career. As the lead fellow in an observational study of diabetes mellitus prevalence in the Canary Islands, she conducted complete history-taking, physical examinations, and data collection across more than 1,400 patients. She has presented research at national and international conferences in Spain and the UK.

Her published work includes: E. Martínez-Quintana, S. Kloppenburg, A. Ojeda-Sosa, F. Rodríguez-González, "Electrocardiographic anomalies after acute alcohol intoxication," SEMERGEN 2014; 40:288–90.
